Reynolds Takes Steeplechase Crown at CMU Invitational

Fayette, Mo.–A limited squad was in the field to represent the William Penn track and field teams Friday, but that did not limit some from posting great performances at the Central Methodist Invitational.
The Statesmen placed seventh with 57 points, while William Woods (Mo.) held off host Central Methodist 115-114 for the title.
On the women’s side, the Lady Statesmen were 13th with 12 points, while Lincoln (Mo.) ran away with the title with 184.5 points.
Nick Reynolds (Sr., Riverton, Utah, Iowa Western CC) headlined Friday’s efforts by leading the pack in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:57.76, just over five seconds shy of his own school record in the event.
Gabriel Green (Jr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) only competed in the 200 and 400-meter dashes, but recorded a pair of top-ten placings. The junior was fourth in the 200 at 22.05 seconds and fifth in the 400 in 49.75 seconds.
Trevor Volz (Fr., Adel, ADM HS) was twice in the top ten in the hurdles, finishing seventh in both the 110 (15.96 seconds) and 400 (58.54 seconds). Fellow hurdler Sam Taylor (Fr., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) took ninth in the 400 (58.95) in addition to a fourth in the high jump at 6-0.75.
A long jump bronze of 21-10.75 by Dexter Jordan (So., St. Louis, Mo., Forrest Park CC) topped the list of other notable performances. Van Love-Scott (Fr., Detroit, Mich., Highland Park HS) was in the top ten in the long jump as well (7th, 20-11.75), while Tyler Shipley (So., State Center, West Marshall HS) was an identical seventh in the triple jump (40-2.75).
Armond Thigpen (Fr., Park Forest, Ill., Thornton Township HS) was ninth in track’s fastest race, finishing the 100-meter dash in 11.40 seconds. Blake Washington (So., Knoxville, Knoxville HS) had a tenth-place tally in the 800-meter run in 2:01.51.
Two relay squads were top finishers with the 4×4 team claiming runner-up honors in a time of 3:27.70 and the 4×8 group earning third in 8:37.50.
Fatoumata Samura (Fr., Bronx, N.Y., Dewitt Clinton HS) was in the top ten twice to be the most productive Lady Statesmen competitor at the event.
The freshman was seventh in the 400 in 1:00.77 and tenth in the 200 in 27.06 seconds.
Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS), with a time of 2:26.46 in the 800, and the 4×1 relay, with a time of 50.25 seconds, were each fifth Friday.
Megan McDonough (Fr., Ottumwa, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) notched a seventh-place ending in the 100 at 13.14 seconds, while Lindsey Kimler (Fr., Dugway, Utah, Dugway HS) led the field participants by having the 11th-longest javelin toss at 83-7.
