Larry D. Rozenboom

Larry Dean Rozenboom, the second of five children was born August 9, 1945, to Garret and Henrietta (Block) Rozenboom. He was baptized at First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. He attended Oskaloosa Christian Grade School and graduated from Pella Christian High School in 1963. Larry made profession of faith at 19 years of age at Bethel Christian Reformed Church.

Larry worked briefly for Oskaloosa Implement, Bill Bone Motors, and Edwards & Campbell Construction during the winter months. He enlisted in the Army Reserve February of 1966 and completed basic training and AIT at Fort Polk, Louisiana at Fort Benning, Georgia. On July 25, 1967, he was united in marriage to Judy Cathleen Rus. To this union one son was born, Sean. Larry continued employment at Wake’s Feed in Oskaloosa and then joined his father in the farming operation three miles west of Oskaloosa. In 1977, he purchased a farm three miles north and west of the home place. In 1985 he started working nights at Vermeer Manufacturing and farmed during the day. In 1992, Larry sold his farm and moved to Pella.  In 1994 he started the 4 Seasons Yard Care/Snow Removal business joined by his son, Sean. The business grew and he quit his job at Vermeer Manufacturing. In 2000, Larry and Sean purchased Vander Beek Truck Accessories. In 2002 he sold 4 Seasons Lawn Care because both businesses were growing rapidly. In 2009 he also began driving bus for Peoria Christian. He also helped at the shop, mowed multiple properties, helped his brother farm and helped anyone in need.

Larry enjoyed collecting and restoring antique machinery, hobby farming and was always ready to help others in their time of need. He served as a Care Shepherd, Elder, helped with Mainly Music, Angel Tree Ministries, Wayside Chapel, Joshua Academy, Bethel Mission and the Tulip Time Shuttle. Interests included singing in the Gospel Singers Male Chorus, the Rozenboom trio with his brother Wayne and sister Carol, the Rozenboom quartet, and at one time – the Living Waters Quartet. His walk of life reflected his passion for the Lord. He enjoyed going on tractor rides with the Red Rock Threshers and participated in field activities at the Nelson Pioneer Farm. His grandchildren lived close by and saw Grandpa almost daily as a fixer-upper, landscaper, repair man, and mowing all over the country. Running out of gas was not unusual as he liked to “live on the edge.” His desire was that each one of his grandchildren and greats would know the Lord as their personal saviour and looked forward to having them join him in heaven.

He also leaves behind two sisters: Carol (Don) Houk, Helen (Bill) Schinkel, one brother Wayne (Susan) Rozenboom, one sister-in-law Geneva (Lilburn) Jansen, one brother-in-law Larry (Jean) Rus, and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law Pete and Nellie Rus, sister Joyce (Gene) Beyer and nephew Cristian Nederveld.

 Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 15, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Friday, April 14, at the Peoria Christian Gymnasium, with family present. Memorials may be given to the Peoria Christian School. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
