Week Eight Update

Hello friends,

Happy Thursday! It has been another full and fun week up here on the Hill. I enjoyed committee meetings, floor debate, and several great visitors! Here are some highlights from the week:

On Monday, I officially filed my papers to run for reelection! Here I am pictured with Secretary of State Paul Pate.

I had the privilege of being on the subcommittee for HF 2487, a bill that authorizes the creation of a length of service award program for volunteer firefighters and other emergency medical personnel. The bill passed the subcommittee and I am looking forward to seeing how it continues!

Some of the fantastic students from Indian Hills Community College visited us early in the week, and I really enjoyed the chance to chat with them for a bit. Thanks for coming, all!

I also loved showing my friend Jamie Spangler and her daughter Linden around the capitol on Wednesday! Little Linden lost her tooth while we were talking in the rotunda… good thing I had a ziploc bag and tissues in my office close by! Linden’s tooth made it home safe and she enjoyed the rest of her day. Thanks for coming to see me, ladies!

Additionally, I was able to be part of several meetings about the further implementation of WorkDay in Iowa with the Governor’s office as well as the office of the Chief Information Officer. We discovered more about the systems and processes for implementation as well as the practical application.
Before we ended business for the day, I also got to serve on the subcommittee for HF 2384, An Act relating to the future ready Iowa Act and other efforts to strengthen Iowa’s workforce, including a child care challenge program for working Iowans, a workforce diploma pilot program, computer science instruction, work-based learning coordinators, and the senior year plus program, and including applicability provisions.

I am continuing to enjoy my leadership and committee roles, it is such a privilege and honor to represent you in the House. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. Thanks all!
