Central College Selected to Attend Integrative Learning Conference

A seven-member team from Central College has been selected to attend the American Association of Colleges and Universities 2018 Institute on Integrative Learning and Signature Work at Boston University in July.

At the institute, Central’s team will explore how to help students better integrate everything they’re learning in their classes, their co-curricular activities and in their service, work and life experiences. They’ll also explore “signature work” like capstone projects that integrate and apply student learning to complex problems and projects that are important to students and to society.

“Today, college graduates must be able to apply the knowledge and skills they are learning in real-world contexts as they collaborate with diverse groups to develop solutions to complex and urgent problems encountered in globalized workplaces and civic life,” says Brian Peterson, Central’s associate dean for curriculum and faculty development. “Central is a leader in integrative and experiential learning. This institute will help us proceed further down that path.”

Attending the workshop will be Peterson; Sara Bergman, assistant professor of accounting; Leslie Duinink, associate professor of exercise science and interim registrar; Linda Laine, professor of communications studies; Lee Macomber, assistant professor of biology; Timothy Olin, assistant professor of history; and Charles Strey, dean of students.
