Indians Dominate Fairfield
by Jodi Steinlage
The Oskaloosa girls’ soccer team traveled to Fairfield last night to take on the Trojans. The girls would dominate much of the game and come out on top with a 5-0 victory to move their record to 6-3 on the season..
The first half would see the Indians spending a large part on their offensive half controlling the ball and the pace. The shots would come, but unfortunately they wouldn’t find the back of the net as easily as the Indians would have liked.
Kinsey Cook would finally put the Indians on the board in the 21st minute (assist Brittney DeMoney) and the girls would take a 1-0 lead into half.
The 2nd half would be much of the same for Oskaloosa with controlling the ball and pace that allowed for shots, but scoring would be much more difficult. DeMoney would score on a free kick from 50 yards out in the 55th minute. The last two and half minutes would be the most exciting for the Indians were they would score 3 goals by Cook (Penalty Kick), Lindy Slocum (assist Mary Nelson), and Mac McCallum (Penalty Kick).
“The girls did a really good job of moving the ball and controlling the pace. We dominated much of the game and we like to see us keep the ball on their side. We do need to work on keeping the pace of the game at a higher level for an entire 80 minutes and continue to work on finishing. We had lots of chances tonight, but haven’t yet found our groove in finishing off the great ball movement.”
The JV team would also get the victory against the Trojans with a score of 3-2. Goals would be scored by Lindy Slocum, Paiven Knoot, and Kaia Graham.
The girls will take on rival Pella at home next Tuesday at 5:00. We would love a huge crowd to cheer us on for this big game!
