Soderblom, Wrestling Team Honored by NWCA

Oskaloosa–The cream of the William Penn wrestling team’s crop was also successful in the classroom as the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced its all-academic team Friday.

As a team, WPU ranked eighth in the NAIA with a 3.132 Grade Point Average with Kyle Soderblom (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Biology) headlining at 3.70. The award is the third for Soderblom in his Statesmen career.

Truett-McConnell (Ga.) had the top GPA at 3.424, while Oliver Brukardt of Life (Ga.) led all individual recipients with a 4.00 GPA.

The team GPA includes 12 of the team’s top grapplers (10 must have competed at the North Qualifier), including national qualifiers Scottie Bonds (So., Chicago, Ill., Physical Education), Ishmael Rempson (Sr., Olympia Heights, Ill., Industrial Technology), and Angel Villa (Fr., Deming, N.M., General Accounting).
