Golomski Hits 1,000 in 77-68 Win

Katie Golomski scored six points to become the 20th player in school history with 1,000 points (currently with 1,005).
Oskaloosa–Katie Golomski (Sr., Milwaukee, Wis., Psychology & Sociology) did not have a big scoring night, but her teammates stepped up to make the history-making contest a positive memory as the William Penn women’s basketball team held off AIB 77-68 in Midwest Collegiate Conference play Wednesday.
Golomski scored six points to become the 20th player in school history with 1,000 points (currently with 1,005). It was only fitting that the senior, who is the career record-holder in three-pointers, would set the mark on yet another trifecta. Her shot gave WPU (9-11, 2-2 MCC) the lead for good at 14-12.
The visitors pulled ahead 37-31 by halftime and then really pressed down on the accelerator with a 26-10 run to lead 63-41 with 10:19 remaining in regulation.
Not to be outdone on their own court, however, the Eagles (5-15, 0-5 MCC) managed their own 22-4 run to get right back into it at 67-63 with 5:05 still on the clock.
Fortunately, William Penn kept the hosts at bay and never let the game get within one possession.
Jessie Kreuser (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn., Physical Education) was everywhere with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks. The Statesmen were miles ahead in shooting margin at 52.9%-30.6% and held a 45-41 edge on the glass. Those marks were necessary in the end as WPU had to overcome 23 turnovers and 18 offensive rebounds by AIB.
Janay Pritchett (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Biology), with 15 points, and Stevie Anderson (Fr., Kansas City, Mo., Digital Communication), with ten–both off the bench–also eclipsed double digits. Destiny Spinner (Jr., Saginaw, Mich., Biology) added six points in the win.
“This was a good conference road win,” Head Coach Mike Brown said. “We let it get interesting in the end, but the seniors made plays when they had to. Jessie was big late and Janay and Stevie were solid as well. Dezarea Duckworth also played some big minutes for us.”
