US Congressman Frank Lucas to be on hand

The KIIC Farm Show, combined with the 44th Annual Cornbelt Cow Calf Conference, is just a few weeks away and organizers are making their final plans. The show is slated for Friday January 30th and 31st.

Joe Milledge, Owner of KIIC says they already have over 115 agriculture related vendors planning to exhibit. “We’ll be pushing Bridgeview to its seams. We have everything from seed companies to grain bin storage to stock trailers, to livestock farms and everything in between – a real variety of vendors.” Milledge said.

“We are really excited about the lineup of speakers coming as well – including Congressman Frank Lucas – one of the architects of the recently passed Farm Bill will speak during the Saturday session. In addition, Friday’s schedule includes unique topics like ‘Drones on the Farm’ which is a high-tech and inexpensive way for farmers to inspect grain bins, their livestock or even check the wetness of their fields after heavy rain – and do so while standing in one place on the ground. ” Milledge added.

Other Friday sessions on include a Stock Dog demonstration by recent National Stock Dog champion Jerry Miller. Miller says that having a working cattle dog on the farm is that ‘extra man’ who never calls in sick and is never late for work. Milledge explained “Because we are out of space in the expo hall, this demonstration will be out on the Plaza deck – but Bridgeview will be setting up bleacher seating on the opposite side of the glass so those watching the demonstrations will be on the warm side of the glass!”

There will also be sessions focused on the Pork industry as Bill Winkelman from the National Pork Board will deliver the latest on Iowa’s Pork production. Another session by the Iowa Farm Bureau will look at the latest EPA regulations regarding waterways on private land. “The Iowa Farm Bureau has come out strong against the EPA’s WOTUS (Waters of the US) regulations which put added burdens and limitations on even private land owners.” Milledge said.

This year’s Farm Show is being combined with the Cornbelt Cow Calf Conference which has been held in Ottumwa for 43 years. By combining the two shows at Bridgeview Center, the show can be expanded and offered for free admission. “With over 90,000 farms in Iowa, a tight supply of cattle, residuals of the Swine flu virus and many other issues affecting our extended AG community, we felt it was important to offer a more local event that centers on Southern Iowa”. Milledge added.

Saturday’s sessions will also focus on the state of Iowa’s Packing Industry with a panel discussion from Tyson, Iowa Premium Beef and Lime Springs Beef.

Once again this year, attendees will have a chance at winning one of 4 LazyBoy recliners.

For a complete session guide, readers can go to www.kiicradio.com. Very few spaces remain for exhibitors. If you are interested, contact KIIC radio for more information.

Hours for the show are Friday, January 30th from 12pm-6pm and Saturday January 30th from 8am to 4pm.
