Denise Ridley, 53, of Oskaloosa passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at her home in Oskaloosa after a brief illness. Denise Diane Ridley, daughter of Hoy and Bonnie (Verwers) Modlin, was born November 4, 1961, in Pella, Iowa.

Denise was a 1980 graduate of Twin Cedars High School. Following her education she worked as a waitress at Happy Chef Restaurant, then as a cashier at Econo Foods and then various manufacturing companies in the area. For the past ten years, Denise has worked at Wal-Mart, and was currently serving as an assistant manager. Denise treasured the time she could spend with her grandchildren and time she spent at the ocean.

Her family includes her children: Brandi (& Brad) Carman of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Tyler (& Kristina) Ridley of Colorado Springs, Co; her grandchildren: Gracie and Jackson Carman, Scott and Jaycie Ridley, and a yet unborn Carman baby due in March; her mother, Bonnie (& William) Harkins of Runnells, IA; sisters: Donna Modlin also of Runnells and Deb Nash of New Sharon; a brother, Steve (& Lisa) Modlin of Knoxville, IA.

In addition to her father, Denise was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William & Wilma Verwers; and paternal grandparents, Oliver & Mary Modlin.

Funeral services for Denise will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Andy Baker of the Central Reformed Church officiating.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, December 29, at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made in her name and will be designated at a later time.
