William Jay Davis, 52, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, December 15, 2014, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born Saturday, August 4, 1962, in Oskaloosa the son of Lyle and Diana Lynn Crago Davis.

Bill graduated from North Mahaska High School with the class of 1980. On September 25, 1999, he was united in marriage to Juanita Rick in Oskaloosa.

Bill did construction work for various companies including E&R Builders and Ron and Brett Vos Construction. He retired from concrete work in October of 2014, when ill health forced retirement. Bill was also an ordained minister, he enjoyed ministerial work especially performing weddings and reading biblical literature.

He also enjoyed hunting, buckskinning, and playing cards with his friends and family. He delighted in spending time with his granddaughter. Another one of Bill’s passions was family history. He traced his family all the way back to William Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America. Bill felt strongly about his roots and his connection to his ancestors in the Deep South. He was also very proud of his Native American heritage.

His family includes his wife, Juanita Davis of Oskaloosa; two sons: William Patrick Davis of Ottumwa and John Rick, Jr of Knoxville; a granddaughter, Layla Best; his father, Lyle Davis of Barnes City; a brother, Mike (& Cindy) Davis of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters: Tina (& David) Jaegers of Ottumwa and Melissa (& Bryan) Fenton of New Sharon; a step son, Bryan Munyon of Ottumwa; a brother in law, Justin (& Tianna) Aldridge of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 19, 2014, at 1p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend David Brown officiating.
Burial will be in the Beacon Cemetery west of Beacon, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House or to the family.
