Oskaloosa, May 22nd, 2014 – The Oskaloosa Y’s Men’s Club, a community service club which works in partnership with the Mahaska County YMCA, was chartered in the 1950s. The club is still actively filling that mission with nearly 20 members actively involved in supporting camp activities. Financial support for there is primarily provided thought the club’s annual Christmas tree sale held in the Mahaska Drug parking lot.

The club’s annual potluck meeting took place at the Y Bruce Sedrel Camp at Lake Keomah May 21. At that meeting, the club donated $1,200 to the annual Y scholarship campaign and $1,500 to the Bruce Sedrel Camp. Megan Roozeboom, honored student of the month, accepted a plaque from the club at the meeting. Kristen Getzin, Youth Coordinator, discussed summer camp programing.

The club supports the Y through volunteer service in cleaning the camp site every spring and fall. “The Y’s Men’s Club is a wonderful organization, and I am so appreciative of their service and support,” said Dawn Collins, executive director.

The Oskalooosa Y’s Men’s Club is part of the International Y’s Men’s Club which started in 1922. It’s purchase is to be a worldwide fellowship of men and women of all faiths working together in mutual respect and affection, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, and with a common loyalty to the Young Men’s Christian Association, striving through active service to develop, encourage and provide leadership to build a better world for all mankind.
