Corda Hoffman, 88, of Oskaloosa died Monday evening, October 28, 2013, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa.
Corda Evelyn Hoffman, daughter of Joseph Marion and Anna Melvina Clouse Baker, was born February 18, 1925, in Liberty, Iowa in Clark County. As a youngster the family moved to a farm near Liberty Center where she was a 1943 graduate of Liberty Center Consolidated High School. Her first job was an office job with Continental Overall Factory in 1948, she worked there for 11 years. She then went to work at Ideal Manufacturing; there she worked for eight years in the purchasing department. From there she went to work at McGregor’s Furniture Store, where she served as the office manager. She would stay there until her retirement in 1987.
Corda married Floyd John Hoffman, July 2, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They made their home in Oskaloosa and Corda also assisted Floyd in his auto supplies distribution business.
Corda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening and watching the “Cubbies” with Floyd.
Her family includes a sister, Audra Goodrich of Chariton and formerly of Osceola, IA. She is also survived by a host of caregivers and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; brothers, Marion and Raymond Baker and an infant sister.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 31, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa with Rev. Dr. Dennis Morey officiating.
Burial will be in Chariton Cemetery in Chariton, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from Noon to 6 p.m., Wednesday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel.
Visitation will resume at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday with the family present from 9:30 a.m. to service time.
