Theatre Central presents “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”

PELLA — Theatre Central presents its first play of the fall season, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” running Oct. 2-5 at 7 p.m. at the Pella Opera House.

First published as a book in 1886 by Robert Louis Stevenson and later making its Broadway debut in 1997, the non-musical play is filled with evil, love and suspense.

Taking place on the streets of Victorian-era London, Dr. Henry Jekyll experiments on himself using the latest medicines. But it has one side effect—it awakens his evil inner-self Mr. Edward Hyde. Director Mary Jo Sodd, professor of theatre, hopes that the Opera House will bring life to the play.

“The Opera House stage has a Victorian feel to it,” said Sodd. “This will give students a better outlook on what life was like during that particular era. It will also give the performers a chance to actually walk through a frame in history.”

General admission is $8. Student and senior citizen tickets are $6, and admission is free with a Central ID. Free tickets with a Central ID are only available at the Maytag information booth. All admission fees apply at the Opera House.
