IOWA POET LAUREATE TO GIVE READING AT LIBRARY
In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Oskaloosa Public Library welcomes the community to a reading by Iowa Poet Laureate, Mary Swander. The event, sponsored by Humanities Iowa, will take place 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 in the library’s meeting space on the third floor.
National Poetry Month is a month long celebration of poetry and recognition of the craft’s place in American culture. Schools, libraries, bookstores and writers across the country celebrate with readings, workshops, displays and other events. Thursday’s event at the library is made possible by Humanities Iowa, an organization that helps bring humanities programs to non-profit organizations in Iowa.
Swander, a Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University, has written four books of poetry, and her latest work is a play and edited collection of essays called Farmscape. She will be visiting the library to share in National Poetry Month by reading a selection of old and new work.
