Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s basketball unfortunately did not make history as the new #1 Tuesday afternoon, but an unprecedented achievement was still procured as the sixth NAIA Division II men’s basketball poll was released.

The Statesmen (21-1, 5-0 MCC) remained second in the nation, but courtesy of a top-ten win, picked up its first first-place vote in program history. William Penn, who received 332 points, earned the one extra point courtesy of its 92-87 win over then #7 and now #9 Mount Mercy last Saturday.

Eastern Oregon again sits atop the division with 343 points and the other 12 first-place votes. Indiana Wesleyan, St. Thomas (Fla.), and Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) round out the top five.

William Penn returns to action Wednesday to host Grand View in MCC action at 7:30 p.m.
