Vicente Ranked Nationally for First Time
Oskaloosa–After a hot start, Joao Vicente (Fr., East Providence, R.I., Secondary Education) has finally caught the eyes of national raters as the NAIA released its fourth regular season poll Wednesday.
Vicente, who owns a 15-3 record (three falls, six major decisions) with three finals appearances, is 12th in the division at 133 pounds. His ranking has helped William Penn return to the national poll, holding at #27 with three points.
Grand View is still #1 with 150 points, while Southern Oregon is second with 126 points. Great Falls (Mont.) (92), Montana State-Northern (87.5), and Campbellsville (Ky.) (83.5) round out the top five.
In the Central Qualifying Group ratings, William Penn is eighth with 26 points, while Grand View is first with 218 points.
Vicente is the top Statesmen grappler, sitting third in his weight class. Kyle Soderblom (So., Newton, Iowa, Biology) is also ranked, being sixth at 197 pounds.
