Janet Marie Edwards
Janet Marie Edwards, 82, of Mesa, Arizona, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at her home in Mesa. She was born January 11, 1930, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Marie Volley Masters. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1948. On October 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Matthew Edwards at Lancaster, Missouri. Matt died August 17, 2008. Janet worked as a hairdresser in various shops in Oskaloosa. Lastly she had her own private salon at her home on the Edward’s Farm west of Oskaloosa. In 1993, she retired and they moved into Oskaloosa. Janet was first and foremost a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life; she retired early so she could spend time with her precious grandchildren. She was a member of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries, and was always there to help with funeral dinners and steak frys. She was also a member of the “Super Grandma” club. She enjoyed reading and traveling. Most trips that she and Matt took had a visit to grandchildren on the itinerary.
Her family includes her 6 children and their spouses, Tom and Carol Edwards of Edmond, Oklahoma, Connie and Reverend Gary McDonough of Apache Junction, Arizona, Don and Melinda Edwards of Davenport, Cathy and Dave Green of Mesa, Arizona, Jon and Penny Edwards of Gilbert, Arizona, and Mary Kay and Michael Huntington of Davenport, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mary Jane Hunt of Windsor Heights, Iowa, Betty Mayhugh of Mesa, Arizona, and Geraldine (& Ernest) Ellis of West Des Moines, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Loretta Van Nordstrand.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Gary McDonough officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Friday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5—7 to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley in Arizona.
