Rowley Tabbed for National Award

Rowley being congratulated by her teammates after dinging a home run

Oskaloosa–Brianne Rowley (Sr., Hood River, Ore., Blue Mountain CC) had numbers that were not just impressive on the conference level, but also put the rest of the nation to shame as she was named NAIA National Softball Player of the Week.

The first baseman helped William Penn (28-11, 11-1 MCC) to a 7-0 record last week, extending its winning streak to 13 games in the process.

Rowley hit .478 (11-of-23) during the week, including producing five home runs and one triple. She tallied 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored as well and had a hit in six of seven games (four multi-hit performances).

The senior had two two-home run games, giving her a team-best 13 for the year, which is one shy of the school single-season mark.

For the year, Rowley is hitting .358 (38-of-106) with squad highs in RBIs (tied at 41) and runs (40).

It is the program’s first NAIA award since Steph Christner won pitcher laurels during the 2005 season. It is also the second national accolade for a William Penn student-athlete in the past three weeks as women’s golfer Maggie Yang was honored on March 28.
