William Penn Alumni Association seeks green dress project volunteers
The William Penn Alumni Association is looking for volunteers for their annual green dress project. Volunteers are needed to help with advertising, dress inventory, organizing the fashion show, modeling in the fashion show, working the fashion show and working store hours. According to Amanda Hudnut, Vice President of volunteerism at William Penn, the green dress project is aimed at “families that cannot afford to purchase a prom dress for their daughters. We want to make sure that any girl that wants to attend prom is able to and looks beautiful doing it.”
Amanda Hudnut also explained to us in an e-mail the history of the green dress project. “This project was started a few years back by the Oasis school (Oskaloosa’s Alternative High School). In 2009, the Oasis school contacted the William Penn University Alumni Association and due to budget cuts, they would not be able to continue the project and wanted to know if we would be interested in taking over. Of course, we jumped at the chance.” Hudnut said that 96 dresses were sold last year. “The William Penn University Alumni Association would like to continue this and make it bigger and better!” Hudnut said.
Donations are also being sought. If you have a dress, shoes, or jewelry that you are willing to donate, you are asked to contact Amanda Hudnut at Amanda.Hudnut@musco.com or call 641-676-2679.
