Mahaska County Supervisors to Discuss Road Projects, County Buildings and Election Preparations Monday

OSKALOOSA, Iowa — The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors will meet Monday, October 19th, at 9 a.m. to consider several matters involving county roads, building maintenance, law enforcement, and preparations for the upcoming general election.

The meeting will take place in the third-floor conference room of the Mahaska County Courthouse, located at 106 South First Street in Oskaloosa.

Among the 21 items on the agenda are updates on the Southeast Connector project, improvements to county facilities, a possible police protection agreement with the City of Beacon, and plans for snow removal during the approaching winter season.

Southeast Connector and County Road Projects

Several transportation-related matters are scheduled for discussion.

The supervisors will consider a request from McClure Engineering to amend its engineering services agreement for the Southeast Connector project.

The board will also receive an update on the Southeast Connector and a separate update concerning a bridge south of Cedar.

Another item involves approving final plans for pavement resurfacing on County Route G29, extending from Highway 63 east to Oxford Avenue.

The board is also scheduled to consider an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for snow removal along Highway 102, from the western city limits of New Sharon to the Highway 63/146 intersection.

Additional discussion will focus on network equipment for the county’s Secondary Roads Department.

County Building Repairs and Improvements

A significant portion of Monday’s meeting will focus on county-owned buildings and equipment.

Jody Wolver is scheduled to participate in a discussion concerning the DHS building. Supervisors will also discuss the building’s fire alarm panel and consider an agenda item involving juvenile affairs and building systems.

At the county annex, supervisors will consider replacing security cameras and the building’s boiler.

These discussions could lead to decisions about maintenance, equipment purchases, and improvements to county facilities. The agenda does not provide estimated costs for the proposed work.

The board will also appoint one of its members to participate in interviews for the county’s maintenance director position.

The agenda does not specify the proposed terms or costs of the agreement.

The board will also review the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office report for September 2026.
