CHAMPS! WARRIORS CLAIM SECOND-STRAIGHT DISTRICT TITLE

Mason City, IA – For the second consecutive season, and third time in program history, the Indian Hills Men’s Wrestling squad captured the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) North Central District Championship. The Warriors brought home four individual District champions while qualifying all 10 individuals to the upcoming National Championship.
The Warriors, ranked No. 1 in the national polls, outlasted No. 2 nationally ranked Iowa Central Community College 179-175 thanks to a thrilling victory in the final championship bout of the night where sophomore Naasir Edmonds (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) upset No. 1 nationally ranked Zaman Anwar of Iowa Central to claim the team title. In total, the Warriors placed nine individuals in the championsip round, securing the four individual titles and five District runner-up performances.
Along with Edmonds, fellow sophomores Gavyn Whitehead (New Castle, IN/New Castle) and Shehabledin Mohamed (Alexandria, Egypt/Smouha Military) became repeat District champions for the Warriors after claiming titles as freshmen in Council Bluffs, IA in 2025. Freshman standout Jahkari Clark (Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley) joined the sophomore trio with a District title of his own at 149lbs.
For his efforts, Clark was tapped as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Wrestler of the Year. The freshman, seeded fourth in the tournament, went 3-0 for the Warriors, including two upset victories to earn the league’s top honor. Clark was joined by head coach Cole Spree who was named the ICCAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, and fifth time in his career (three at Indian Hills).
Prior to the 2026 haul of District champions, the Warriors had previously earned just two repeat District champions – Caleb Meekins (133lbs, 2021-22) and Deron Pulliam (184lbs, 2021-22). Indian Hills has now claimed 17 all-time District champions since the program’s debut in 2020-21.
The Warriors will now send all 10 of its District place-winners to the NJCAA National Championship at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA on March 6-7. The Warriors will head to Council Bluffs with their sights set on the program’s second consecutive national championship.
125lbs | Charlie Dykes (Lee’s Summit, MO / Lee’s Summit North) | 2nd Place
Dykes took home a runner-up finish in his postseason debut for the Warriors. Seeded second in the tournament, Dykes scored a 16-0 tech fall in just 2:16 of mat time to punch his ticket to the semifinal round. Dykes followed up with a 3-0 decision over No. 3 seed Noah Jones of Iowa Western before dropping his championship bout 19-6 Muhammad Bilal of Iowa Central. Dykes secured a qualifying bid to the national championship with his runner-up performance.
133lbs | Olli Webb (Tunnel Hill, GA / Southeast Whitfield) | 2nd Place
Freshman Olli Webb made a run to the finals as the No. 2 overall seed at 133lbs. After earning an opening-round bye, Webb cruised into the finals with a 19-5 decision in the semis. Taking on No. 1 seed Tegan Sherk of Iowa Central, Webb made a late push, but fell short in overtime, 4-1. Webb secured a qualifying bid to the national championship with his runner-up performance.
141lbs | Gavyn Whitehead (New Castle, IN/New Castle) | 1st Place
For the first time in program history, the Warriors secured back-to-back 141lb District titles as Whitehead, the defending national champion clinched the championship with ease. The sophomore outscored his two opponents 30-4 and used a fall in 3:55 in the championship round to punch another ticket to Council Bluffs.
149lbs | Jahkari Clark (Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley) | 1st Place
Clark, ranked No. 2 in the nation in the latest NJCAA Poll, battled his way to a thrilling title with three victories. Clark opened the day with a fall in 4:10 before upsetting No. 1 seed Matt Roche of Iowa Central in the semis, 8-4. Clark used another upset win in the championship, a 14-8 decision over No. 3 seed Logan Crowther of Iowa Western to secure his spot in Council Bluffs.
157lbs | Shehabeldin Mohamed (Alexandria, Egypt/Smouha Military) | 1st Place
Mohamed repeated as a District champion, and became the first wrestler in program history to win District titles at two different weight classes. The 149lb champion a year ago, Mohamed entered this year’s tournament as the No. 1 overall seed at 157lbs. The sophomore dominated his opening mach with a 24-5 tech fall before a 6-3 decision in the semis. Mohamed scored a late takedown in the third period of the championship match vs. No. 2 seed Chancery Dean of Iowa Central to earn a second consecutive title.
165lbs | Mohamed Tarek Abdelhady (Aledandria, Egypt/Sports Military School) | 2nd Place
Abdelhady earned his second consecutive automatic bid to the National Championship after placing second overall for the Warriors. Abdelhady, who placed third overall at last year’s District tournament in the 174lb bracket, scored a 19-3 tech fall in 5:17 of mat time before falling late in the championship match to No. 2 seed Kaden King of Iowa Central who repeated as the 165lb District champion.
174lbs | Cinsere Clark (Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley) | 3rd Place
Clark earned another automatic bid to the National Championship after placing third overall for the second consecutive season. Clark, who claimed third in last year’s 165lb bracket went 1-1 on the day to earn a trip to Council Bluffs.
184lbs | Johnathan Clohecy (Sumterville, FL/The Villages) | 2nd Place
In his postseason debut for the Warriors, Clohecy made a run to the championship match as the No. 2 overall seed. The freshman earned the third-fastest fall of the entire tournament in the opening round with a pin in 00:56. Clohecy added a pin in 2:29 in the semifinals before falling to eventual champion and No. 1 seed Jarrel Miller of Iowa Central in the championship bout. Clohecy secured a qualifying bid to the national championship with his runner-up performance.
197lbs | Andrew Marquez (Rock Island, IL/Rock Island) | 2nd Place
Marquez, the defending 197lb NJCAA National Champion, earned his second consecutive runner-up finish at the NJCAA North Central District Championship by going 2-1 on the day. Marquez secured an opening round pin in 1:21 before earning a hard-fought 2-1 decision in the semifinals. Marquez fell in the championship match to No. 1 overall seed Tony Palmer of Iowa Western. Marquez secured a qualifying bid to the national championship with his runner-up performance.
285lbs | Naasir Edmonds (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) | 1st Place
Edmonds became the program’s first-ever repeat District champion at 285lbs with a remarkable performance in the championship match. Edmonds, the No. 2 overall seed and a returning NJCAA All-American, earned back-to-back falls to punch his ticket to the championship match. Taking on top-seeded Zaman Anwar of Iowa Central, Edmonds earned a three-point takedown with just 00:38 remaining to knock off Anwar and avenge a loss to the No. 1 ranked wrestler back on January 21.
