Alex Seemann
July 18, 1984 – September 12, 2020
Cedar Falls (Oskaloosa), Iowa | Age 36
On Sept 12, 2020 Alexander (Alex) Paul Seemann, 36, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, went to the arms of Jesus at his parent’s home in Oskaloosa after a valiant effort fighting colon and peritoneal cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
Alex was born on July 18, 1984 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Ken and Julie Seemann of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
He attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated in 2002. He earned an AA degree from Indian Hills and a BA from North Central Bible College.
Alex loved music from a young age and often sang with his dad at church and led the teen worship band “FREED”. He later transitioned that love to writing music, teaching guitar and music lessons to students.
He met the love of his life Maganda (Lolo) in 2010 and they were married in 2011. Alex, along with Lolo, became the children’s and music minister at Glad Tidings Assembly in Cedar Falls Iowa. They also led the Chi Alpha ministry at University of Northern Iowa.
Alex was a man of a multitude of talents. He supported Lolo in her love of Photography and as she developed her skills in that area, he also developed his in videography and as a Disc Jockey and obtained his drone license. Later, he became an independent contractor and consultant doing IT work around several states. In his spare time, he was always reading or listening to TED Talks, a Documentary series or the Star Trek saga and was always sharing his knowledge. He loved to play strategy games. The more difficult, the better. He was a master of them all. It became his family’s mission to beat him at a game, but that was rare.
Alex and Lolo’s ministry and heart from the very beginning of their lives together was for Lolo’s family in the Philippines and the school that Lolo had attended while living in the Philippines. Together, they founded “Maganda World”, a 100% non-profit, charitable ministry that provides students with school supplies, tuition assistance and room and board. They often sacrificed their wants for the needs of her family or the school in the Philippines.
Alex’s heart was always centered on loving others and being there for others. This was evident as over 100 people flowed through our home from 5 different states in the last month of his life and those who posted memories on Facebook or CaringBridge. They shared stories of his care and love for others and his desire to be a servant for the Lord. As his health declined his heart was still toward others. He wanted to be certain that people understood that he trusted the Lord’s plan for him. If that meant healing on earth or healing in heaven he wanted “God to be glorified”. He encouraged each of us to wake up every morning and say, “how can I show love to someone today”. We encourage each of you to take up this mission every morning.
Alex is survived by his loving wife, Maganda Hope (Lolo) and the Lusod family in the Philippines; his parents, Ken and Julie; older brother Ernie, and his sons – Noah and Nate; sister, Briana (& Jake) Barnes and their children – Jaidyn, Jordan, Kasen and Maverick; sister, Calayna (& Ryan) Hohenberger and their children – Nolan and Callen; brother, Rolland Johnson; sister, Aishya (& Cody) Brigham and their daughter – Hayden; and his youngest brother, Kaden. Lifelong friends Ben (& Kassie) Wilson and TJ (& Liz) Norman; Brad and Holly Cote (Waterloo parents -church); Basilides Pacheco (Philippines); and Honorary brother, Matt Wickman.
We would like to thank Hospice of Pella for the care in the past weeks.
As was Alex’s wish, his body has been cremated by Bates funeral home.
An informal celebration of life will be held Sept 26th, at 2 pm at First Assembly of God in Oskaloosa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maganda World to support their outreach in the Philippines. (see Maganda World on Facebook)
