Ehresman Keeps Streak Rolling
Brookings S.D.–In his last throw, the last chance for the Statesmen men’s indoor track and field team came through as Sage Ehresman (Sr., Sully, Iowa, Exercise Science) earned All-America honors at the NAIA National Championships Friday and Saturday.
Ehresman placed seventh in the shot put to push William Penn’s streak to 11 consecutive national championship meets with an All-American, dating back to the 2015 indoor event.
The 2020 indoor meet began with Mofiyinfoluwa Alade (Jr., Hoffman Estates, Ill.) competing in the high jump. After clearing his first height of 6-5, the junior failed at the next mark and tied for 18th overall. Travis Joseph of Valley City State (N.D.) won the title at 6-10.75.
Joel Brown (So., Columbus, Ga.) then went up against the fastest in the NAIA and placed 20th in the 60-meter dash in 6.93 seconds. Dante Brown of William Carey (Miss.) claimed gold with a time of 6.67 seconds.
Finally, it was up to Ehresman. He entered nationals ranked eighth and then just qualified for the finals. Going into his final toss, he was in ninth place, but jumped two individuals with a mark of 53-5.5. Dylan Kucera of Midland (Neb.) earned the crown at 58-2.5.
Not only was it good enough to give him his second career All-America accolade (also part of the 4×100-meter relay team last year), Ehresman also broke the school indoor record, previously held by Derek Seddon in 2016 (53-3.75).
During the current streak, WPU has had 15 All-Americans; the program has managed 20 since 2010.
William Carey took the team title with 82 points.
