Oskaloosa Homecoming Parade dazzles residents

Oskaloosa Iowa Homecoming Parade 2010

Oskaloosa residents were treated to the annual homecoming parade this past Thursday, organized by the Oskaloosa High School Student Council. Beginning promptly at 6:30 pm the parade began with the American Legion color guard. Parade goers then were able to see their local school/community leaders riding together. After the local elected officials came through, residents were able to listen to the award winning OHS Band. This year, the parade featured three different bands those being the OHS Band, OMS Band and the newly formed William Penn Marching Band. Besides the William Penn Band several other new entries were noted this year.

Valley Bank was seen handing out mini footballs to parade goers. KFC was also spotted handing out coupons and mops of Oskaloosa was walking this year. “This year we had 43 floats enter to be in the parade. We had two entries not show up and two entries not entered in advance show up on the day of the parade.” said the parade committee Chairman. They also went on to say “We have been told by many people that this year’s parade was the best one in a long time. I feel that it is safe to say that it was probably the most organized one and that that is the reason why we had no problems during the parade this year.”
