Oskaloosa, Iowa (May 9th, 2018) – Last week mother nature washed the racing action away but this week was a different story as beautiful skies with very few clouds in the sky meant the Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Speedway presented by KBOE 104.9 could finally get another night in the books.

Binn & Stevens Dust Control, Supreme Lawn & Landscape, and Kraig Ford sponsored the night. It was also College and High School Night meaning all College or High School students could get in free with their student ids. Thanks to the Southern Iowa Fairboard, there was even a $2 Beer Special all night for the fans of legal age.

Seventy cars checked in to race on night two at the Southern Iowa Speedway, and that included 9 Iowa Sportsman Series, 11 Sport Compacts, 13 Stock Cars, 14 Sport Mods and 23 Hobby Stocks. Four New Faces took wins on Wednesday: Brandon Housley (Sport Compacts), Nathan Wood (Stock Cars), Eric Stanton (Hobby Stocks) and Doug Weiss (Iowa Sportsman Series) meanwhile Curtis VanDerWal repeats in the Sport Mods.

The first feature to take to the speedway was the Finish Line Auto Sales Sport Compacts 10 lap feature. Billy Cain and Brandon Allison battled it out to take the lead on lap one with Cain taking it, however, a little contact between the two allowed Brandon Housley, who worked his way from the seventh starting spot. Housley grabbed the lead away and began to pull away until late in the race when Kyle Boyd made a late race challenge for the top spot. Housley was able to hang on to take the checkers first ahead of Boyd, eighth place starter Cody Phillips, Allison, and Cain.

Next up was the “Class Too Tough To Tame” the Midstate Machine Stock Cars 16 lap feature event. Dustin Griffiths took advantage of his pole position by grabbing the early lead, but Mike Brown was not making easy on him out front. Nathan Wood was running second until Mike Hughes was able to grab the third spot away on lap three. Hughes continued to chip away and managed to edge out Griffiths at the line on lap five. On lap nine contact between Griffiths and Hughes sent Hughes to the pits with a flat tire meanwhile that allowed Nathan Wood to sneak by Griffiths for the lead as well. Wood knew there would be a challenge late and that challenge late came from Opening Night Feature Winner Cayden Carter. Wood was able to fend off “The Gasman” Carter for the win. Griffiths managed a third-place finish, Michael Peterson finishes fourth, and Derrick Agee was fifth.

Unfortunately, before a single lap completed in the Carter’s Manufacturing & Van’s Racing Sport Mods 15 lap feature, the red flag came out when Cory Van Zante flipped four or five times down the back straightaway, Van Zante would climb from the car okay however it ended his night. When the race finally got started, it was “Mighty Mouse” Jason McDaniel taking the race lead. McDaniel looked comfortable out front and appeared heading to the victory until the caution came out on lap nine for Jarret VanDenBerg flipping, in turn three, VanDenBerg climbed from the car but it to ended his night. McDaniel now had to contend with “Speedy Bray” Brayton Carter and Curtis VanDerWal for the race lead. VanDerWal got by Carter and then McDaniel to take the race on lap ten. VanDerWal pulled away and went on to take his second win of the season. McDaniel finished 2nd, Carter was 3rd, Blaine Webster was 4th, and Logan Anderson was 5th.

In the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stocks feature, it was Eric Stanton grabbing the top spot, but Jamie Songer was not making easy for him. Just after one lap placed in the books, the caution out for Benji Clemons in turn three. Stanton was not going fazed by but saw the caution again come out lap three, first for Clemons in turn two and then on the restart for Derek Kirkland in turn three. Stanton again got a great restart, but the caution came out again on lap 11 for debris in turns three and four. Stanton had to battle the last four laps with Dustin Griffiths and Jamie Songer, but Stanton cruised to the win. Griffiths took second with Songer in third. Aaron Martin and Mike Kincaid round out the top five.

The final feature of the night was the Iowa Sportsman Series feature, and it was Tyler Sutter leading the first 14 laps before Doug Weiss, the defending Iowa Sportsman Series Champion grabbed the top spot away. Weiss pulled away from Sutter to take the win. Sutter finished second with Leroy Kline, John Watts, and Wayne Webert finishing third through fifth.

Racing action continues Next Wednesday Night with Budweiser Memorial Night at the Races. Fans and Racers can donate any amount of money to the purse in memory of anyone they choose.
