Jean Johnson, 90 of Montezuma passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Barbara “Jean” Johnson was born on January 30, 1932 at Blue Earth, MN. to Ohmer and Frieda Schanzenbach Gust at Blue Earth, MN.

Jean attended and graduated from Blue Earth High School and worked at Green Giant.

Jean was united to marriage to Marvin Dale Johnson on August 18, 1951 at the Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, MN. They became the parents of four children: Barb, Linda, Nancy and Dale.

They moved to Tracy, MN. where Jean worked at a furniture store and a nursing home. In 1970, Jean, Marvin and their family moved to Montezuma. She worked at Friendship Manor, the Montezuma Nursing Home, and Brownells until she retired at age 65.

Along with raising her family, Jean loved to read, do needle point, was a great seamstress, and a Minnesota Vikings fan. She and Marvin were honored as being best supporters and received the Best Fan Award for the Montezuma Girls Basketball team. She enjoyed the ballgames and watching their granddaughters play for North Mahaska Girls Basketball. Jean loved to visit several different casinos, camped at the Iowa State Fair since 1977, never missing a year, and always vacationed in Vegas every year. She remained strong in her German Lutheran faith. Jean was devoted to her family and loved them most of all.

Jean is survived by her children: Barb (& Lyle) Martin of Lynnville, Linda (& Dave) Schinckel of Grinnell, Nancy Hargis of New Sharon and Dale (& Gayle) Johnson of Montezuma; seven grandchildren: Nickole Upton, Mike (& Becky Dudley) Magie, Andy (& Melanie) Hargis, Jess (& Jaroed) Sanders, Joseph (& Jerilyn) Johnson, Kyle (& Tara) Johnson, and Brett (& Teri) Johnson; 18 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; siblings: Joyce (& Duane) Ehrich of Blue Earth, MN. and Arlyce (& Roger) Holland of Elmore, MN.; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; and her two sisters, Jennive Kershaw and Mavis Boettcher; and her son-in-law, Jim Hargis.

Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
