Central takes top honors at state dance tourney

PELLA—Central College captured first place in Division II/III Jazz at the Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association Championships.

Coach Lexi Hanna’s squad won with a 95.67 average score while also placing second in Division II/III Pom with 84.67. Points are awarded for choreography, execution, difficulty and showmanship. The team competed Nov. 19 in Des Moines but the results were not released until last Saturday.

Team members include TiAhnna Bryant (sophomore, Donnellson), Paige Busick (sophomore, Pleasantville), Alysha Coyle (freshman, Ankeny), Carin Corrick (junior, Fairfield), Merideth Fiori (sophomore, Grimes), Kendell Helm (junior, Des Moines), Jaida Houge (sophomore, Aurora), Chloe Howell (sophomore, Indianola), Tesssa Huff (freshman, Ames), Claire Livingston (freshman, Ankeny), Addison May (freshman, Johnston), Cailey Ruble (freshman, Windsor Heights), Brooke Schott (junior, Coggon) and Kami Sickels (freshman, Des Moines).

Central travels to Dubuque for the American Rivers Competitive Dance & Cheer Invitational at Loras College Feb. 21. The squad will compete in the pom, jazz and game day categories.
