Boswell touts experience as reason to vote for him

Leonard Boswell

Congressman Boswell is touting his experience both in the armed services and as a legislator as reasons to re-elect him. I legislate on behalf of those who have elected me and believe in consensus-building in order to overcome the challenges that face us. I have a reputation of working across the aisle and am comfortable taking the tough votes that have been necessary to bring our country’s economy back from the brink.” said Boswell.

In an e-mail interview this week, the Congressman answered questions involving experience, as well as some of the issues Iowans are facing. When asked about his stance on the new health care reform law Boswell said “This legislation will go a long way toward ending the discriminatory insurance practices to get more Iowans covered, lowering health care costs by expanding the pool of insured Iowans, and bringing transparency to the health insurance industry.”  He also said “I want every Iowan to have access to high quality, stable health insurance that they can afford.”

When asked about Wall Street reform Boswell had this to say “The government has acted responsibly to reform our financial system with passage of the Wall Street Reform Act that I helped craft which will end any and all bailouts and forever put an end to the concept of too big to fail while at the same time providing consumers and investors with the tools and protections needed to have sound financial markets.” He also said that “As this legislation is implemented I trust we will witness greater consumer protections, particularly with the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, to ensure everyday working Americans are not threatened by the greed of big Wall Street bankers.”

Boswell also commented on the Tea Party movement “I support the political rights of every American and would never discourage people that share similar ideas from organizing and forming a third party.”

Finally, Congressman Boswell commented on education and whether or not No Child Left Behind should be repealed One of my top priorities in Congress is supporting Iowa’s world-class education system in order to prepare our state’s youth for life after high school. We must make sure that class sizes are manageable, teachers are trained, and that our facilities are up-to-date with 21st century technology” He also stated that “The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act is not working for many students, schools, and communities in Iowa. I strongly support making substantial changes to elementary and secondary education policies in order to address the problems faced under NCLB provide schools with the resources they need to succeed, and improve our children’s education.”

Boswell will take on State Senator Brad Zaun in the November election.
