Eddyville, Iowa – The noise of race cars can be a deafening experience, but also one that brings with it great excitement. Racers have that competitive spirit and desire to not only beat the person in the lane next to them, but also to better themselves.

This past weekend at the Eddyville Raceway Park, they held the World Fuel Altered Nationals, a top tier of drag racing where competitors come from all around the country to take on the best of the best. It’s a dangerous sport, as was evidenced by the tragic loss of Tim Hay at last years event. So this years event started off with Tim on the minds of many of the racers and spectators alike.

Before the main portion of the show started, Tim’s widow Candy, her daughter, and one of their sons helped to celebrate Tim’s life and legacy. There they expressed their love for the track and the people of Iowa. “It’s the most memorable weekend I’ve ever had, and the kids too. It did every one of us a world of good.” Candy Hay said of their return trip to Eddyville. “We had a huge fan base, I’ve cried with grown men over there the last two days.” Candy went on to say that “the support for the whole year has been amazing.”

“This was our favorite track. Hands down he would ask me every year, ‘What track if you can only go to one race?'” Candy said it was always the Eddyville track. Other than the track, Candy says “the fans”. “Last year he was already in the show with his first pass of qualifying; he didn’t have to make a second pass if he didn’t want to.” Tim said to his wife, ‘Candy, you know me, if this cars running it’s always gonna go down the track cause it’s all about the fans.’ With Candy responding, “I knew that’s what you were going to say.”
