William Penn Reaches Semis of McKendree Baker Challenge
Fairview Heights, Ill.–The Statesmen men’s bowling team put up a good fight at the McKendree Baker Challenge Saturday and Sunday.
The Statesmen finished seventh out of 27 varsity teams in qualifying with 7,033 pins over nine sets of Baker games. Robert Morris (Ill.) was the top qualifier with 7,495 pins.
Despite being the #7 seed, WPU dispatched second-seeded Webber International (Fla.) 2-0 in the quarterfinals (211-206, 215-173), but was then upended by eventual bracket champion Wichita State (Kan.) in the semifinals (216-244, 168-219).
William Penn’s Baker team consisted of Cameron Foster (Sr., West Jordan, Utah, Business Management), Brandon Barboza (Jr., Brick, N.J., Sociology), Jacques Kaune (So., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management), Drew Balta (Sr., Walford, Iowa, Education), Piet Schaeffer (Sr., Livingston, Scotland, General Mathematics), Travis Scott (So., West Saint Paul, Minn., Physical Education), Lucas Perdieu (Fr., DeWitt, Iowa, Public Accounting), and Conan Mackey (Jr., Bray, Ireland, Public Accounting).
