NAPERVILLE, ILL. — Central College volleyball senior hitter Mollie Mason (Iowa City, West HS) pounded down back-to-back 11-kill performances Saturday at the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament.

Central returned to the win column, defeating St. Lawrence University (N.Y.) 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17 but later fell to Trine University (Ind.) 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23. The Dutch are now 9-18 overall after the tournament.

“I was much happier with how we competed today,” said coach Jeanne Czipri.

Mason added 14 digs in the second match.

Senior middle hitter Jenna Dille (Carlisle) led the Dutch with 12 kills against Trine (10-10 overall) and added seven more in the victory over St. Lawrence (15-10).

Senior setter Regan Nelson (Pella) quarterbacked the offense with 38 and 28-assist performances.

“I was pleased to see how Regan and Jenna stepped up to fill some different roles,” said Czipri.

Senior outside hitter Kylie Gerstein (Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) had nine kills in the win and eight kills in the second match.

Following the tournament, Central hosts its final Iowa Conference matches of the season when Wartburg College and Luther College come to Pella Friday and Saturday respectively. It’s a 7:30 p.m. start time Friday night with the Knights and a 11 a.m. first serve against the Norse Saturday. Live stats and video for the conference contests can be found at athletics.central.edu.

“We are excited to be back home this weekend,” said Czipri.
