Navy and Gold Women Tenth at ISYL Leatherneck

Davenport/Milan, Ill.–Breanne Underwood (Treynor, Iowa, Master’s of Business Leadership) was one spot away from a top-ten finish as she guided the William Penn women’s bowling team at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn placed tenth out of 26 teams with 8,310 pins in six regular games and four sets of Bakers. By falling short of the top eight, the squad unfortunately did not advance to bracket competition.

Wichita State (Kan.) topped the field in qualifying with 9,472 pins, and then held its seed by defeating Ashford in the finals.

Dasha Kovalova of Wichita State was the top individual in qualifying with a 216.8 clip (1,301 pins).

Underwood topped William Penn by placing 11th out of 202 competitors at 199.2 (1,195 pins). Kelsey Johnson (So., Montgomery, Ill., Secondary Education) was next with a 188.0 average, while Kirstin Newberry (Jr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education) held a 184.2 mark.

Samantha Powell (Sr., Herriman, Utah, Psychology/Human Services) also bowled all six games with a 183.3 clip.

Abigayle Wempen (Sr., Titonka, Iowa, Public Accounting) averaged 169.4 pins in five games, while Jessica Ganem (Sr., Austin, Texas, Psychology) finished with a 106 in her only game.

Next: William Penn is off two weeks, returning to action December 1-2 at the Warhawk Open in Madison and Sun Prairie, Wis.
