Kelly, Bandy Honored on All-MCC Teams

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–Jeff Kelly (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Business Management) and Mason Bandy (So., Calgary, Alberta, Biology) were staples in a solid 2012 Statesmen soccer campaign, and their efforts helped them earn postseason recognition as the all-Midwest Collegiate Conference men’s soccer teams were announced today.

Kelly, as a defender, and Bandy, as a goalkeeper, were both named to the league’s honorable-mention squad. Both are first-time honorees. A total of 28 athletes were lauded by the MCC, including 14 first-teamers and 14 honorable mentions.

The duo guided William Penn to an 8-11-1 record (2-4 MCC) and its first appearance in the tourney semis since 2006. While the offense only came up with 23 goals, the defense was stout, shutting out five opponents and limiting five others to just one goal.

Kelly, who was converted from a forward to a defender by first-year head coach Greg Jarosik, assisted on one goal this fall.

Bandy stepped up nicely in place of injured Sam Gurski (Jr., Beaumont, Texas, Physical Education), who was an honorable-mention pick last year. The sophomore keeper was 8-11-1 with a 1.69 Goals Against Average. He posted 97 saves and had four shutouts.

Ryan Adamson of Grand View was named MCC Player of the Year, while Hasim Stitkovac of AIB earned Newcomer of the Year honors. Grand View Head Coach Blair Reid received the COY award from his peers for the seventh time in his career as the Vikings won the regular season and tournament titles.
