Indians Suffer Loss To Keokuk

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Indians made their return to Lacey Complex Stadium on Friday night, as they  appeared to be brimming with confidence.

Keokuk struck first on a Matt Nye carry for the TD with 2:18 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT kick by Michael Ingratta was blocked by Mason Wisse. The Chiefs drove 77 yards over 13 plays to get ahead 6-0.

Just after the second quarter started, the Indians responded on a Nate VanVelduizen run from 6 yards out to tie it up 6-6. Jonah Renter nails the PAT and the Indians are out front 7-6 with 11:56 on the clock in the second quarter. The Indians scored on a 64 yard drive over 6 plays.

Keokuk responded nearly 3 minutes later on the Gabe Vandenberg pass to Alex meek from 3 yards out. Vandenberg throws to Darion Sanders for the PAT and the Chiefs are once again in control 14-7 with 9:05 remaining in the half.

Another two and half minutes pass and Oskaloosa answers Keokuk back with the Austin Redlich carry from a yard out. Renter’s kick is good and the game is all tied up at 14-14. The Indians marched down the field in 6 plays for a total of 77 yards.

Keokuk’s Gabe Vandenberg tosses the 14 yard TD pass to Dan Williams with 4:03 remaining in the half, with Ingratta kicking the PAT. Keokuk was ahead once again 21-14 and never again relinquished it.

After half-time, Vandenberg once again finds William on a 23 yard pass for the TD with 7:23 remaining in the third quarter. The PAT kick by Ingratta is good and Keokuk is in command 28-14.

The Indians didn’t give up, and Nate VanVelduizen carries the ball in from 9 yards out, once again putting Oskaloosa within striking distance of the Chiefs with 11:14 remaining in the 4th. Renter’s PAT kick is good and the Indians are only down by a score, 28-21.

Keokuk sealed the deal with 7:20 remaining in the game on a Matt Nye carry from 11 yards out. Ingratta once again nails the PAT and Keokuk leads 35-21

Oskaloosa wasn’t going away without a fight as Landgrebe sprints out a 68 yard TD run with 2:11 remaining in the 4th. Renters perfect on the night with the PAT.

Oskaloosa worked on forcing the turnover from Keokuk, but the game ended on the knee of Vandenberg to run out the clock. The final score being 35-21 Keokuk.

Oskaloosa faces Winterset in their Homecoming game on October 5, 2012. Kick off is at 7:30 pm.
