Grove Notches NFCA First-Team Laurel
Oskaloosa–Brittanee Grove (Jr., Runnells, Iowa, Elementary Education) paired a top honor from the NAIA with another one from the division’s coaches as the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA Softball All-America teams were announced.
Grove was picked as the First Team’s utility player, earning her second national award and the 22nd award all-time for WPU. She joins current Statesmen assistant coach Steph Christner (2005) as the only other navy and gold player to earn a first-team accolade from the NFCA. It is just the sixth time that a William Penn athlete has gained two separate All-America honors in one season.
The Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Year hit .444 (75-for-169) with 16 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 63 RBIs, and 57 runs scored. She also posted an .864 slugging percentage and a .520 on-base clip (27 BB, 3 HBP). Grove had an 11-game hitting streak earlier in the year.
As a pitcher, Grove was 6-5 with a 2.72 Earned Run Average in 77 1/3 innings. She posted one shutout and combined for another, while striking out 55 batters and walking 20. Opponents hit just .234 against the junior.
