Central slips in volleyball match with Buena Vista
STORM LAKE — Central College senior middle hitter Jenna Dille (Carlisle) eclipsed 600-career kills Tuesday night in a 25-16, 25-14, 25-12 defeat to Buena Vista University.
Dille collected six kills on a .600 attack percentage to lead the Dutch (8-15 overall, 1-5 Iowa Conference). With the win, Buena Vista improves to 14-9 overall and 4-3 in conference.
“We had some great aggressive plays throughout the match but then we made some unaggressive unforced errors,” said coach Jeanne Czipri. “It is hard to get any momentum going when you give those free points away and we gave too many of those free points away and didn’t make them earn their points.”
Senior outside hitters Mollie Mason (Iowa City, West HS) and Kylie Gerstein (Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) added five kills apiece.
Senior setter Regan Nelson (Pella) and junior setter Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) had 13 and 11 assists respectively.
Freshman defensive specialist DaLana Kron (West Branch) had nine digs.
The Dutch head to the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament Friday in Naperville, Ill. Central opens tournament play with host North Central (Ill.) at 3 p.m. and ends the night with Bethel University (Minn.) at 5 p.m. The two-day tournament concludes for Central with matchups against St. Lawrence (N.Y.) and Trine University (Ind.) starting at 1 p.m.
