Boma, Phillips Win November Player of the Month Laurels
Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the November Player of the Month awards.
Senior cross country runner Jamal Boma (Des Moines, Iowa, Business Management and Physical Education) claimed the Male award, while senior women’s basketball player Alyssa Phillips (Gurnee, Ill., Communications) took home the Female honor. The award is the second for both athletes.
In two meets, Boma became the Heart of America Athletic Conference champion as well as an NAIA All-American. At the Heart Championships, he was first in a time of 25:46.66; the senior also earned Heart Runner of the Week accolades for the finish. Boma then placed 13th out of 331 runners (in 24:54.8) at the NAIA National Championships to claim the first cross country All-America honor in program history.
In eight games, Phillips averaged 15.6 points and 7.6 rebounds in addition to 19 blocks, 13 steals, and seven assists. She reached double figures four times with a high of 39 points; the senior also tallied one double-double. Phillips shot 59.0% from the field and 67.5% from the line. The month was highlighted by Phillips scoring her 1,000th career point. She was a one-time Heart Player of the Week.
