Madison, Wis.–Bailey Palmer (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Undecided) was in the top five to guide the Statesmen women’s bowling team at the Ebonite Warhawk Open Saturday and Sunday.

WPU was fifth out of 20 teams with 8,223 pins in six regular games and four sets of Baker play. St. Francis (Ill.) was the best qualifying team with 8,633 pins and eventually took the bracket title as well.

The navy and gold knocked off Robert Morris in the quarterfinals, but was dropped by St. Francis in the semis. Catherine Maher of St. Ambrose was first in qualifying with a 205.8 average.

Bailey Palmer (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Undecided) headlined the navy and gold charge by placing fourth with a 199.3 average. Stephanie Adams (Sr., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management), at 177.5, and Amber Ovel (So., Waterloo, Iowa, Business Management), at 172.7, also started all six games.

Nicole Craft (Fr., Wakefield, Neb., Physical Education) produced a 163.8 clip in four games, while MacKenzie Boyd (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Psychology and Human Services) (201.3) and Briell Newberry (Jr., Holland, Mich., Elementary Education) (156.7) both started three rounds. Kayla Gifford (Fr., Camanche, Iowa, Biology) averaged 170.0 pins in two starts.

William Penn’s junior varsity crew was seventh out of eight teams in the JV standings with 7,269 pins.

The Statesmen rolled in all six games, including Audra Farley (Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Education) (171.3), Cybil Lennie (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Human Services) (160.8), and Kaylee Gerken (So., Dubuque, Iowa, Elementary Education) (153.2).

Rachel Wesely (Fr., Dallas City, Ill., Sociology) recorded a 142.6 clip in five games, while three games were started by both Lindsey Howard (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Psychology and Sociology) at 155.7 and Melinda Garrett (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, General Accounting) at 142.0. Elizabeth Christy (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Digital Communication) knocked down 201 pins in her only round.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in a pair of tournaments. On December 19-20, the team competes in the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational, and then on the following two days, WPU will battle in the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout.
