Oskaloosa–The William Penn wrestling team could not come up with enough victories in its upper weights in falling 27-15 to NCAA Division II Truman in dual meet action Thursday.

The Statesmen (1-1) claimed four wins, but only one was by more than a decision, while the Bulldogs (4-1) took two triumphs via fall and another by forfeit.

John Altieri (So., Warwick, R.I., Sociology) opened action with a solid 10-4 win over Jeremy Dorrell at 125 pounds.

The visitors picked up the next two bouts, but Kionte Crocker (Jr., Brandon, Fla., Industrial Technology) and Logan Loftus (Jr., Marengo, Iowa, Industrial Technology) drew the navy and gold even at 9-9 with consecutive decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively. Crocker notched the lone takedown in his match, beating Joe King 3-1 in overtime, while Loftus cruised past Zach Taylor 10-3.

Unfortunately, the remainder of the contested battles went to Truman as it locked up the team win. Matthew Cuthbert (So., Yucaipa, Calif., Sociology) was awarded an inconsequential forfeit win at heavyweight to end the evening.

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Indianola next Saturday to compete in the Simpson Invitational. Action begins at 9 a.m.
