On April 26, 2014, at approximately 9:22 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to South McDonald’s, located at 222 Richmond, Ottumwa, IA. Upon arrival, Cory Long and Brittany Songer reported to police that an order that they received at the business appeared to have an additional substance contained on the order.

Ottumwa Police seized the food in question and initiated an investigation. The Iowa Division of Criminalistics Laboratory confirmed that the foreign substance on the food contained tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the controlled substance found in marijuana.

As a result of the investigation, police found no evidence indicating that the marijuana was placed on the food by any employee of McDonald’s. At this time, the investigation has been inactivated pending the development of additional leads.
