Doyle M. Milligan, 85, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

Doyle was born Sunday, February 12, 1928, in Grinnell, the son of William McKinley and Elsie May Wertz Milligan. He graduated from the Montezuma High School with the class of 1947.

In 1953 Doyle entered the United States Army, he received an honorable discharge in 1955. Following discharge from the military, Doyle went to work at a gas station in Grinnell. For many years he was an over the road semi-driver. Last he worked at Bill and Ray’s in Oskaloosa as a truck mechanic. He retired from there in the early 2000’s.

Doyle enjoyed racing stock cars in the 1950’s for Maytag. In retirement he stayed busy by driving trucks for FOX A1 Farms until 2005. Throughout his life, Doyle was married and divorced three times.

Doyle was a member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of the Eagles in which he was very active and held several offices. He also loved his pet cats.

Doyle’s family includes his daughter: Tammie K. Russell of New Sharon; two sons: Edward D. Milligan of Montezuma and Jimmy L. Milligan of Sully; four step-daughters: Pamella J. Milligan of Wahoo, Nebraska, Judy Glandon, Brenda Andras and Teresa Brown; a step-son: Dennis Pollock of Bennett, IA; a brother: George Milligan of Cedar Rapids; a sister: Mildred Peterson of Anamosa; 18 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Audrey K. Novak; a step-daughter, Sandy Rogers; a brother, Delmar Milligan; and two step sons: Leslie Glandon and Michael Glandon.

As was Doyle’s wish his body has been cremated.
Visitation– The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 15, 2014, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the family.
