William Penn Falls to SAU in League Play
Davenport–The recent struggles for the Statesmen men’s soccer team continued Saturday as it dropped a 4-1 decision to St. Ambrose in Midwest Collegiate Conference play.
William Penn (8-5-1, 0-3-1 MCC), which entered league play at 8-2 just weeks ago, could not break through in the MCC win column despite being outshot only 18-11. Although the shot tally was relatively close it did not translate into a close matchup, at least in the final score.
The Fighting Bees (8-4, 2-1 MCC) got on the board in the 12th minute, but failed to add anything else in the first half.
The early minutes of the second stanza, however, were dominated by the hosts with goals in the 54th, 57th, and 61st minutes.
David Nega (Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Undecided) finally lit up WPU’s side of the scoreboard with his second goal of the year at the 68:24 mark. The rally unfortunately did not build any steam from there as both teams were kept quiet the remainder of the way.
Milo Bruce-Burgess (Fr., Perth, Australia, Elementary Education), Angelo Kelly (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Physical Education), and Facundo Manzanares (Fr., Cordoba, Argentina, Business Management) each had two shot attempts to lead WPU’s offense.
