Statesmen Start Year 11th at Midwest Collegiate Event
Wauwatosa, Wis.–An experienced William Penn men’s bowling team got its 2013-2014 season underway with a high finish at the Midwest Collegiate Tournament Saturday and Sunday.
The Statesmen placed 11th out of 42 teams with 11,229 pins in nine regular games and 12 Baker games. Robert Morris (Ill.) topped the standings with 11,881 pins, while Davenport (Mich.) was second with a tally of 11,774.
Nick Stone of Toledo (Ohio) led the 298-person field with a 229.1 average (2,062 pins).
Piet Schaeffer (Sr., Livingston, Scotland, General Mathematics) was the top navy and gold roller with a 204.7 average to place 29th. All five of WPU’s bowlers, who are all returning letterwinners, started in each of the nine regular games.
Returning All-American Cameron Foster (Sr., West Jordan, Utah, Business Management) was next with a 201.7 clip, while Drew Balta (Sr., Walford, Iowa, Education) had a 197.8 average.
Jacques Kaune (So., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management), with a 195.6 mark, and Brandon Barboza (Jr., Brick, N.J., Sociology), with a 194.0 average, also competed well for the Statesmen.
