Central still 15th in wrestling rankings

Central College

PELLA—Central College remains No. 15 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll.

It’s the program’s highest ranking since the Dutch were fifth in 1991-92. The Dutch opened the year rated No. 29.

Central (1-1) captured the team trophy at the 11-squad Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) Invitational Saturday. Freshman Aaron Anderson (Clarion, Clarion-Goldfield HS), junior TJ Peretti (Auburn, Wash., Mountainview HS) and senior Jake Crawford (Monroe, Southeast Polk HS) were each individual champions at 133, 141 and 285 pounds, respectively. Central compiled 156 points, topping second-place Wis.-Oshkosh by more than 50 points.

Iowa Conference foe Wartburg College (3-0) holds steady at No. 1, with Coe College (3-0) at No. 4, Luther College (1-0) at No. 16, the University of Dubuque (2-1) at No. 18 and Loras College (1-4) at No. 28.

The Dutch head to Rock Island, Ill., Thursday for a double dual hosted by Augustana College (Ill.). Central meets Knox College (Ill.) at 6:30 p.m. and No. 19 Augustana at 8 p.m.
