Multi-Purpose Parsons Receives First League Laurel

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–Penn quarterback Taylor Parsons (Fr., The Woodlands, Texas, College Park HS) performed like a veteran in the biggest game of his young collegiate career and for his efforts he was named Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week announced by the league office today.

Parsons helped the #11 nationally-ranked Statesmen (7-0, 4-0 MWL) to a 41-35 victory against St. Ambrose Saturday.

The freshman signal-caller rushed 30 times for 152 yards and three touchdowns and completed 12-of-15 passes for 134 yards and another two scores. The 286 combined yards the most for him this fall. The five touchdowns are also the most by a Statesmen player this season and are the most since Ryan Van Dalen also scored five times versus Iowa Wesleyan on October 10, 2009.

Parsons, a first-time MWL honoree, is no stranger to big-scoring games, having hit paydirt three times once before and four times in two other games. For the year, the freshman has 129 carries for 680 yards and 15 touchdowns (all team highs). Through the air, he has completed 27-of-52 passes for 520 yards and four TDs (three INTs).

The award is the seventh of the year for the football program.
